Amman: The capitol

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Not much to say about the capitol: metropolitan, overcrowded and chaotic. Four hours drive from Wadi Rum up the north.
We enjoyed our hotel: The Misk Hotel, built in 2010, very posh and international standard. First thing we did: shower! After a day in the sandy Wadi Rum it felt like heaven! Interesting sights: The citadel, on top of a hill overlooking Amman, the Roman Amphitheatre. Also a very good kick: driving the car through the city by day. Blinking was just a courstesy of your fellow drivers, not necessarily to indicate to anyone. You can be overtaken on the left or / and the right side. There is no marking on the street for the lanes, just drive as you could. Even if your life insurance does not require, it is advisable to have a second person to read the street map / Sat Nav for you. So you won’t be distracted from the survival training!

Roman Amphitheatre, Amman

From Amman you can also make a day trip to Al Jerash to see the remnant of the roman city (we didn’t) and the desert castles near Al Azraq.
