It has been our refuge for a while. Happy days and less favourable farewell. For the first time in years we could call a place home. A transitional period to make a life changing decision. However, it has always been a pleasure to return here.


The Blue Cock by the German feminist artist Katharina Fritsch will occupy the emty socket since its erection in 1841 for a total duration of 18 months. Trafalgar square, London

After landing late in the evening we take a hotel room near the airport. So we can get into London centre by tube early next morning after breakfast. Spending a day walking along the Thames and to do sightseeing. After the lunch break a worthwhile visit to Buckingham Palace. Then it is time to leave the overcrowded London. We drive by car further to the south.

In the small town and port of Emsworth, once famous for oyster farming, we find the Jingles, our bed & breakfast for the next few days. Delicious curry in the local Indian restaurant, long becoming a food institution in every British town beside fish & chips and Chinese meal.

After a sunny morning on the pebble beach of Hayling Island we drive further to Winchester, 35 miles away. A small town full of history. A walk through the picturesque streets.

A visit to the cathedral and also the place of interment of many monarchs, clerical dignitaries as well as Jane Austen, the English novelist of the 19th century, passing the house where she lived her last days and died in.

Our last day in England. Return flight from Stansted to Bremen in the evening. Time for a day visit to Cambridge which is about 2 hours drive from there to the airport.

Another sunny day, pleasant walk through the old town centre of Cambridge. Beautiful ancient buildings and parks. Along the Cam river.
