Mallorca, Spain (March)

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It should be a family reunion for all of us, a gathering of three generations with kith and kin. Because of the little kids we decided for Mallorca, a place which is easily accessible for everyone within two hours travelling by aeroplane. For those who do not reside in Europe: Mallorca is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, a very popular holiday resort. Over the years the Majorcan tourism industry has well developed to cater for any demands and ages. So you can’t do any wrong to get there with your family.

A village market square

Despite of long planning ahead only half of our family (15 people) manages to come here together. We all have our accomodation in the same luxurious 4 stars hotel with hotel own beach and swimming pools in Alcúdia.

There are numerous natural and cultural attractions on the island: From stalactile cave, hiking path and racing cycling schools. Lots of cafés, bars and restaurants in the historic town centres. Also galleries and concert halls. Needless to mention the same amount of amusement halls and souvenir shops.

Relaxing on the beach

In March the weather in Mallorca is mild, after sunset you do need a pullover. The water temperature is quite cold but it does not keep the children away from jumping into the sea.

Pollença is situated ten kilometers from Port d´Alcúdia. There you will find the 365 Calvari staircases leading to the chapel Eglésia del Calvari on the top. From here there is a procession by members of an order which are dressed and fully covered by robe and hood in the Ku Klux Klan manner but in brown colour. Holding torchlight in the one hand they walk silently and paced by a monotone dull drum down the steps in the twilight of Good Friday night. Quite spooky and scary.
