Not ready to go yet…
One more week, how exciting!

This time we have companions: Cecile´s sister Ronni and her husband Dixi. The women are born in Santiago. It is sort of homecoming for them although not much of the earlier day memories are left. Hence it will be a first time experience in Chile for all of us.
Bremen – Amsterdam – Buenos Aires – Santiago will be our route.

A visa is not required for the visit of Chile and a duration up to 90 days for most of the EU-citizens. There is a list of visa requirement for every country on the website of the Chilean Embassy in Germany. No compulsory vaccination, but some recommendation therefor. Ask your doctor and pay him well 🙂

Otherwise plenty of cash as always, travel health insurance and international driving licence. There should be some difficulty to buy Chilean Peso locally in advance, so we decide to get it from the ATM by credit card when we arrive there.
My credit card has no annual fee, is free of charge for cash withdrawal and payment in foreign currencies. You will find many similar offers from banks of big brand and established reputation in the internet.

Hola, Santiago!

After 24 hours we arrived in our appartement in Santiago. It was a tiring journey but we have had a lot of fun. Thanks, Jens, for bringing us to the Bremen Airport! So I could start the trip with a refreshing snooze, whenever I don`t have to drive the car myself.

Bremen is a one of our favorite international airports with all the necessary facilites but small and cosy. Not to compare to Schipol in Amsterdam and  Ezeiza in Buenos Aires. However, all of our flights departed and arrived in time. Meals and movies on board were good enough to excuse the long travelling time.

In Santiago Airport forms are to be filled: Immigration card and customs declaration, before you are allowed to enter the New World. On the first floor above the Arrival there is the Santander Bank at the end of the long corridor. Here we find the ATM for the withdrawal of our first Chilean Pesos. Taxis and other transportation at the exit of the airport building. Be aware to take the blue taxi assigned by the airport staff.

Las Condes

Las Condes is a posh area of Santiago. Trees line the pavement of the side roads with lots of chic tower blocks and their security guarded entrances and well-kept front gardens. In between the city villas and other official buildings. It is also the banking centre of Santiago which concentrate on the main roads.
After resting in the 30°C hot and sunny afternoon we walk around to explore the neighbourhood and end the day in the restaurant having meal outside under the stars.
