Grand Palace, Bangkok

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The palace complex has been the residence of the kings of Siam, later of Thailand, since 1782. The royal court was based here until 1925. Today it is still used for official events.

For admittance your legs have to be covered over knees. But don´t worry. No need to buy emergency clothing from the street vendors, no matter what they try to tell you. Sarong for ladies and trousers for gentlemen are items on loan included in the admission ticket!

At the entrance of the palast we are offered a free tour with a tuk-tuk by one of the chaps standing around. From appearance he could be a palast official. We want only to look for ways, don´t even ask anyone. Really free? Yes, sir. A tuk-tuk comes straight away and takes us two to different shops: Juweller and silk trader. In between a visit to a pagoda. The driver waits patiently outside for the next unknown destination. At the third shop, a tailor for custom made suits, we tell him we would not see any shop anymore. He nods and does not wait for us this time 🙂 Fully aware of the potential risk we are pleased to get rid of him without having any argument.
