Bahan, Yangon

Our last day in Myanmar. The flight home starts from Yangon via Bangkok and Frankfurt am Main. So we return here a day earlier to stay in the four stars The Merchant, just opened two months ago in Bahan, next to the Shwedagon Pagoda.

The visit to Myanmar has been a lovely and exciting experience. The country and people are genuine. Beautiful landscape, warm-hearted people. Although the economy and living standard is far behind its neighbouring states, Myanmar has the potentials to catch up with since peaceful developments in politics and democratic changes have been established in recent years.

Perhaps it is the current shortfall in many aspects of the economy, e.g. infrastructure and tourism, which makes up the charm of the people: They are not yet spoilt by the usually wealthier tourists. Burmese are easy going and relaxed. Only in a single occasion we have to insist to pay the fare which has been agreed beforehand.
