All together Chile was an enjoyable holiday. Friendly people, magnificent landscapes. The country is too large to visit all in one go. Basic Spanish would be helpful. No need to bring loads of US dollars in order to save hotel bill VAT (19%). The hotel bill was charged in US Dollar to the credit card and exactly the amount as it was booked in advance without tax. Conditions for VAT-free hotel bill: being tourist paying in US Dollar. Car rentals was more expensive than in other countries.
