The cathedral

Plaza de Armas Cusco was also the scene of public execution of the last Inka king Túpac Amaru (1572), he was buried in the cathedral of Cusco. And also one of the Spanish conquistadors Diego de Almagro (1538).

Opposite to the cathedral

Diego de Almagro together with Francisco Pizzaro and his three half-brothers conquered South America. Due to internal power struggle and intrigue Diego de Almagro was captured and executed.

Uphill to San Blas

1541 Almagros allies assassinated Francisco Pizzaro in Lima. Almagros son and his followers revolted against the Spanish crown.They were defeated in the battle of Chupas. Almagro junior was also executed in Cusco.

Head high stone blocks

The Inka stone wall was constructed from heavy stone blocks weighing tonnes by man power. It was such a precise stonemasonry skill that mortar was not needed.

San Blas quarter

Away from the tourist hotspots in vicinity of our hotel we try our first ceviche, a popular cold fish dish in the early afternoon. The cevicheria closes at 5 pm.

Ceviche: cold fish served with onion, sweet potatoes in a sauce of lemon juice, salt and chilli. You have to like it

Apart from us there is another party in the restaurant, a large family which celebrates the birthday of a young woman. So we are able to witness closely the celebration from the next table.
